Create a Trigger SmartBlock

Create dynamic, personalized content for product-focused triggered messaging.

Before you start

  • Trigger SmartBlocks can currently only be used when Dotdigital Marketing is your messaging provider.

You can create separate Trigger SmartBlocks for different types of triggered messaging.

When you create a new block, you’re prompted to pick from the available Trigger SmartBlock templates in your account. The templates you see are those created for the messaging type you’ve selected.

Create a new block

  1. In Personalization, go to Automation > Trigger SmartBlocks.

  2. Select Create Trigger SmartBlock.

  3. In the popup, enter a name for your Trigger SmartBlock and expand the drop-down menu to select a storage folder.

  4. Expand the Message type drop-down menu and choose from:

    • Cart abandonment email

    • Browse abandonment email

    • Post purchase email

    • Price drop email

    • Back in stock email

    • Low stock email

  5. Select Continue.

  6. Under Choose a template, select the Trigger SmartBlock template you want to use, then select Continue.

  7. On the Design tab, expand the sections to edit any text, colors, images, fonts and other design elements you want.

  8. On the Links tab, optionally, expand the Links section to edit the destination URLs for the links in your Trigger SmartBlock.

  9. Expand the Tracking parameters section to edit or add any custom tracking values you want to use.
Tracking parameters you add here act as the default for this Trigger SmartBlock. If you set tracking parameters at the trigger program level which differ from those set on the Trigger SmartBlock, the parameters set in the trigger program are used.

  10. Select Save.

Preview and test

Within the Trigger SmartBlock editor, you can preview your block, as well as test send a message containing it, to check that the configuration of the block is as you want it. Make sure you have saved your changes to generate the correct preview or test send.

Preview

On the right hand side of the editor screen, you automatically see a desktop preview of your Trigger SmartBlock, as it is currently configured. To change the scale of the preview, select either the mobile preview icon, or the custom preview icon and enter your desired width in pixels.

Select Preview to:

  • set a maximum number of products for the preview to display

  • include specific products in the preview

  • generate a preview for a particular email address or mobile number

  • generate a preview for a randomly generated recent cart.

In the Preview side panel, set your desired preview criteria, then select Preview.

Test send

  1. Select Test send at the top of the preview panel.

  2. In the side panel, expand the Trigger program drop-down menu and select the trigger program you want to test.

  3. Enter the email address or mobile number you want to test to.

  4. Select Send test.

Once you’re happy with your Trigger SmartBlock, select Save & continue to go to the Summary page.
