Private preview

This feature is in preview and may be subject to short-notice changes or improvements. If you’re interested in joining the preview, contact your Customer Success representative.

Before you start

  • The number of audiences you can actively sync at one time differs based on your account package.
Contact your Customer Success representative to discuss.

  • Data sync is one-way: Marketing to Personalization. We check every five minutes for changes to list or segment membership, or contact data field values, and update the corresponding audience and visitor record in Personalization.
This action doesn’t refresh segments in Marketing.

  • Synced segments are refreshed in Personalization on an hourly schedule.

Sync Dotdigital Marketing data to visitors

You can choose to sync the data you hold in Marketing contact data fields to Personalization. Any data you hold in custom Marketing data fields is stored as Extra Data in the visitor record in Personalization.

  1. In Personalization, select the Account menu icon and go to Settings > Triggers and messaging integrations > Marketing API users.

  2. Select your primary API user.

  3. For Sync Dotdigital Marketing data to visitors, select Continue.

  4. In the Sync Dotdigital Marketing contact data popup, select the Sync Marketing data toggle to set the status to On.

  5. Select Save.

Your Marketing contact data begins syncing to Personalization. Depending upon the amount of data, the first sync might take some time.

Sync a list or segment from Marketing

There are two ways to set up audience sync from Marketing.

Through the primary API user

  1. In Personalization, select the Account menu icon and go to Settings > Triggers and messaging integrations > Dotdigital Marketing API users.

  2. Select your primary API user.

  3. For Sync audience from Dotdigital Marketing, select Continue.
If you have already set up an audience sync, select Sync more.

  4. In the Sync Dotdigital Marketing audience popup, select the input field to open a list of available lists and segments. Begin typing a list or segment name to search.

  5. Select the lists or segments you want, then select Sync.

In the Segments area

  1. In Personalization, go to Data > Segments.

  2. Select the Dotdigital Marketing audience tab.
You must already have connected your Dotdigital Marketing and Personalization accounts with a default API user for this tab to be visible.

  5. Select the list or segment you want, then select Sync.

Your chosen list or segment begins to sync, and is displayed on the Marketing Audience tab. You can see:

  • Audience name

  • Status
    Syncing, Active, or Failed.

  • Audience type
    List or segment.

  • Number of records

  • Last synced

Delete a synced audience

  1. In Personalization, go to Data > Audience.

  2. Select the Dotdigital Marketing audience tab.

  3. For the audience you want to delete, select the Delete (X) icon.

The icon is greyed out if the audience is currently syncing.

  4. Read the information in the popup, then select Delete to confirm.

If the audience you’re trying to delete is in use in any Slots, Triggers, Segments, or Experiences, you see a banner informing you that there are dependencies you must review before deleting the audience.

The items you need to review are displayed in a table for you. Remove the audience dependencies for the displayed items, then try to delete again.

Use Marketing audiences in Personalization

Once you’ve set up the sync for a Marketing audience, you can use the audience in rules to determine what content you want to display to its members.

You can find the rule to use under Person > Member of a Dotdigital Marketing audience.

  1. Drag the rule onto your rule tree.

  2. Select the Dotdigital Marketing audience input field then select the list or segment you want to use.

Only active audiences are available to select.
